Bainbridge High School’s honor choir will participate in a concert at Cairo High School on Saturday with three other local schools.
The honor choir has participated in this event for the past two years, but this year they have added Lee County into the group, in addition to already participating with Thomas County Central and Cairo High School.
Choral director, Leigh Powell said approximately 60 students will travel to the concert and prepare music from 9 a.m. -2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, before singing on Saturday at 4 p.m.
The students will sing three standard pieces, along with one men’s piece and one woman’s piece.
In order to get their voices ready, the honor choir works with other students and a special clinician that is brought in. While the concert is a time to bond with other choral students, Powell said these honor choir students are some of the most profound musicians in the program.
“These are the students who are most serious about singing and who are the most dedicated to the program,” Powell said.
Some of the choral students may not have access to a choral program in the future at a school, but this gives them the opportunity to interact with other musicians and participate in activities in the Southwest Georgia area, Powell explained.
Powell said the students are looking forward to Saturday and are thrilled with the expansion of adding Lee County.
She, along with the honor choir, hopes to see locals in attendance. Admission is free and those interested are sure to hear some lovely melodies.
