Grandchildren were a highlight in Melvin’s life. He enjoyed spending every moment he could with family, which soon included the staff at Bainbridge Health & Rehab. If he spent any amount of time with you, he felt you earned the right to be “family”. Sports could be a hot topic, especially during football season. Melvin was quick to share his ideas on who should be doing what on the field. He loved a family softball game and shouted encouragement like it was the World Series.

Survivors include his children, Don & Patty Hoskins, James “Buddy” & Jennifer Hoskins, Sandy Griffin, Nita & Pudge Floyd, Beverly Love, Steven Colvin, all of Bainbridge, and James & Tracey Colvin of Tallahassee, FL; his grandchildren, Shane, Shawn, Sheldon, Tyler, Caitlyn, Kayla, Preston, Jacob, Samantha, Bobby, Jordan, Tristan, Carson and Albren; and his great-grandchildren, Gavin, Ethan, Vada, Hunter, Grayson, Tanner, Lilli, Addie, Jayden and Hazeleigh. In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his sister, May Nishimoto; and a special friend, Marie Welch.
