Lady Cats softball drop region opener to Veterans

Bainbridge Lady Cats softball team took to the mounds Thursday afternoon, where they eventually fell short in the sixth inning to Veterans.
Veterans got the game started early in the top of the first, when K. Brown scored on a fly ball and continued to score into the third inning, when Nicole Chavous ran home after a single fly ball.
Determined not to get down, the Lady Cats made a comeback in the bottom of the fourth inning. Alaina Cox singled on a bunt and allowed for Halle Cannon to run home. Following a second out, Taralyn Brown stepped up to the plate and hit a line drive, allowing for Cox to score and evening the playing field.
Veterans took the lead again in the top of the fifth, with Chavous scoring once more from a fly ball. Still fighting, the Lady Cats headed into the bottom of the fifth, where Cannon doubled on a fly ball, allowing Anna Beth Bibby to score.
However, when Veterans entered the top of the sixth the team was ready to seal the deal.
Player, Jenna Thomas singled on a ground ball, allowing for K. Killebrew to score, along with C. Hickey. Thomas later ran home after Brown hit a line drive. Finally, Brown scored when Trinity Thiel homered, finishing the game with a score of 8-3.
Emily Myers took the win for Veterans. She surrendered three runs on six hits over six and a third innings, striking out seven.
Lexie Delbrey took the loss for Bainbridge. She went six innings, allowing eight runs on 12 hits, striking out seven and walking one.
Keyleigh Brinson led the Lady Cats in hits. She went two-for-three at the plate.
Snellgrove, Theil, and Cahvous led Veterans in hits, with Snellgrove going three-for-three at the plate.
The Lady Cats will play again Monday against Cairo at the Bearcat Diamonds at 6 p.m., where they are hoping for a win.
