Active shooter and mass casualty incidents have become horrific realities of American life.  Originally, the responses to these tragic incidents were immediately focused more on law enforcement goals (stop the shooting).

Trauma care goals (stop the bleeding) are now recognized as a critical step, and concurrent action in the process of saving lives.  On August 20, Decatur County EMTs Jamie Earp and Greg Brown presented a very informative overview on the program to the Decatur County Lions Club.

Through grants, “Stop The Bleed” training is currently in process within the County school system.  Knowledge of when and how to take action gives trainees the ability to save countless lives in situations where just a few seconds can make the difference between life and death.   Mr. Earp stated that the training is available to other organizations on a time available basis.  He can be reached via e-mail at jearp@decaturcountyga.gov.

The Decatur County Lions Club presented its annual Buford’s Bears donation to the EMTs for them to give to children victims of traumatic situations.  Mr. Earp and Mr. Brown expressed deep appreciation for the cuddly critters since they give a lot of comfort to the children.
