Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan appointed Senator Dean Burke (R – Bainbridge) to serve as a member of the Senate Study Committee on Portable Benefits for Independent Workers.
“I want to thank Lt. Governor Duncan for appointing me to this study committee,” said Sen. Burke. “In order to keep up with our growing economy and constant expansion of large and small businesses throughout the state, we have to ensure we have the right workforce in place. I look forward to working with the committee to review current policies regarding benefits for contractors and making any necessary changes that will make it easier for these workers to keep jobs in our state and contribute to our economic development.”
The Senate Study Committee on Portable Benefits for Independent Workers was created by the passage of Senate Resolution 325 and has five members who will study the changing workforce to better understand the benefits associated with contractors and temporary employees in Georgia’s economy. The study committee will consider legislation that would allow them to take their benefits with them as they move about the workforce. The committee will report their findings no later than December 1, 2019.
