Lois Gainey, 77, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, July 30, 2019.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2019 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gwan Garrison officiating

Lois was born and raised in the Bettstown Community, the daughter of Cleveland and Hortense Blocker. She graduated from Attapulgus High School and then attended ABAC in Tifton, Ga.. She then attended the Woman’s College of Georgia. After graduation, Lois went to work as the home economist for Oglethorpe County.

Lois met and married J.C. Gainey and they made their home in Columbus, Ga.. After his discharge from the Army, they moved back to Bainbridge, and Lois went to work with the FDHSMV as a driver’s license examiner. She continued working for the State of Florida with the Special Disability Trust Fund, retiring in 2018. When Lois was not working, she enjoyed working in her flower shop making floral arrangements and wreaths.

Survivors include her son, John Gainey; her daughter, Michelle Lagace; her two sisters, Marilyn Blocker and Jo Pitman, all of Bainbridge; her brother, Jeffrey Blocker (Ann) of Grady, Ala.; her grandchildren, Dakota Chaffin, Dexter Lagace, Chelsea Davis, Hannah Davis and Bryan Campbell; her nieces & nephews; and a host of cousins and friends. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Cleveland & Hortense Blocker; her brothers, Kenneth Blocker and Danny Blocker; her sister, Joan Chase; and her niece, Samantha Blocker Hurst.
