Bainbridge’s WRs working closely with quarterbacks for successful season

Bainbridge’s wide receiver coaches believe there is more depth at the position than there has been in years.

Led by seniors Michael Ryan, Jaylan Peterson and Jaheim Jenkins, the wide receiver corps is a strong mix of experience and talent that has the potential to carry the team far this season. Coaches Blake Cecil and D.J. Foreman are pleased with the group’s progress this summer.

“We are two to three deep at each position,” said Cecil. “Those are guys that Coach Foreman and I are comfortable putting out there. They will be able to execute the plays. And they all play defense too, so it’s going to be a matter of finding the right balance for each kid.”

Deyon Bouie, Zion Bouie, Zaccheaus Chrispen and Braxton Johnson are a group of sophomores that have really impressed coaches this summer.

“The sophomores have really, really stepped up this summer and shown flashes of being really good skill players for us,” said Cecil. “I am super excited about where we are at ability-wise. I think it’s the deepest we’ve been since I’ve been here.”

Combined with a quarterback, Quayde Hawkins, who has steadily been improving all summer and at 7-on-7 camps, there is reason to expect Bainbridge could mix in the pass more in 2019. The talent is undeniable, and having the flexibility to move a player between offense and defense without running out of strong backups is a big plus for the Bearcats at the wide receiver position.

“It gets to you whenever you don’t have depth later in the games and later in the season,” said Cecil. “It will help keep us going full speed and keep us fresh.”

Cecil also said the wide receivers have high expectations for each other, holding each other accountable when passes are dropped or blocks are missed.

“It’s a good problem to have when you have depth like we do,” said Cecil.

Bainbridge football fans can see the wide receivers and the rest of the Bearcats this season at Centennial Field, starting Friday, Aug. 23, against Seminole County. Kick off is at 7:30 p.m.
