Thursday night during the Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Tim Cochran recommended the approval of Heith Maxwell for Bainbridge Middle School principal. In a 5-1 vote, Maxwell was approved with board member Winston Rollins as the dissenting vote.

Maxwell said he was very grateful and thankful when he heard the news.

“This was a goal of mine for quite some time, and I am just excited it’s finally happening,” he said.

Maxwell was teaching when Hutto Middle School and Bainbridge Middle School merged, so he has been invested since the beginning. He currently works as the principal at the alternative school, so he is most interested to see how his policies can be implemented at his new location.

Maxwell said his focus is on establishing a positive climate at school, but also emphasizing a discipline policy. He said he is used to working with a staff of approximately 10 people, but now he will have 90 people and he hopes they will appreciate these new policies and his style of leadership.

Maxwell said he knows BMS is in a great place currently, but he does hope to take it forward in the future. As part of his three-year plan, he wants to make the school more innovative and create flexibility in the schedule, adding classes such as engineering and technology.

Maxwell is thankful people believe in this vision he has for the school and its future, but he is most thankful for the Board of Education believing in him and giving him this opportunity.

“Thank you to everyone who has believed in me and who has supported me in this dream of mine,” he finished.
