James Edward Bishop was born July 25, 1925 in Whigham, Ga., the son of Willie Henry and Armelia Knight Bishop. He married Virginia Mae Miller and they made their home in Southwest Georgia. He worked for many years at Climax Milling Co. and later retired from the FRM Store. James was a member of Black Jack Baptist Church.
James had a gentle spirit and a quiet demeanor. He enjoyed gardening, growing some the best vegetables around, and sharing his secrets with his customers. When baseball season rolled around, the Atlanta Braves were always a topic of conversation. It may come as a surprise that James was an avid fan of wrestling, wrestling of the Gordon Solie variety.
Survivors include his children, Susan B. Thompson and her husband, Tommy, of Bainbridge, Teresa Bishop of Blakely, and Eddie Bishop also of Bainbridge; his sister, Frances Hatcher of Baconton, Ga.; his grandchildren, Ryan & Emily Breezee; and his great-grandson, James Breezee. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Virginia Mae Miller Bishop; and his sisters, Nell Hatcher, Inez Thomas, and Sarah Voncile Palmer.
