Voters are urged to confirm addresses

Voters will need to pay attention to notices the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office has mailed out to voters who have supplied the U.S. Postal Service with a change of address.
According to state law, §21-2-233, the Georgia Secretary of State is authorized to compare the change of address information supplied by the U.S. Postal Service with those electors whose addresses have changed.
These confirmation notices are asking voters who filed a change of address with the U.S. Postal Service to confirm that address as your new permanent physical address and the address to be used for your voter registration.
For survivors of Hurricane Michael who may still be displaced by the storm, you will need to pay particular attention to the confirmation notice because it could affect your voter registration. If you intend to keep your home address that was damaged by the storm as your voting address, please take steps to ensure that your voting registration reflects that.
For example, if you were forced to move to another part of Decatur County and filed a change of address with the U.S. Postal Service, you will receive a confirmation notice. Please update or confirm your address by completing and mailing back the confirmation notice to ensure you will be in the correct precinct and receive your correct ballot on Election Day.
If a voter is within the county and ignores the confirmation notice, that voter’s U.S. Postal Service change of address will be updated as the voter’s new voter registration address after about 40 days.
