Kathleen Thomasson Malone, 92, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Sunday, May 19, 2019.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 24, 2019 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Stephen Webb officiating. A private interment will be held at Oak City Cemetery. Members of the Dewberry-Forrester Sunday School Class and The Bridge Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mary Kathleen Thomasson was born February 22, 1927 in Carrollton, Ga., the daughter of Frank T. and Kathleen McLean Thomasson. She grew up in Carrollton and graduated from Carrollton High School. She then attended Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga. where she earned a degree in Journalism. She married William W. (Bill) Mayfield in 1949 and they had two children, Kathleen (Kay) and William Wesley (Wes). In Macon, she was active at Mulberry Street United Methodist Church where she headed the Children’s Program for many years. She was a member of the Junior League of Macon, the Macon Garden Club, the Masqueraders and the Idle Hour Country Club. Her husband, Bill, passed away in 1968.
In 1970, Kathy married Thomas Steele Malone of Bainbridge, Ga., and they successfully blended two families as Steele had three children, Margaret Dianne, Thomas Steele (Tommy) and William Curtis. She was active in the Bainbridge community. She served on the United Way Board, was a Patron of the Bainbridge Little Theatre and headed the committee for redecorating the Chamber of Commerce building. She initiated the Altar Guild at First United Methodist Church and served as the chairman for a number of years. She also headed the committee to redecorate the sanctuary. Kathy was a member of the Dewberry-Forrester Sunday School Class and the Bainbridge Book Club. As an avid bridge player, Kathy was also a member of the oldest bridge club in Bainbridge. Kathy enjoyed traveling and visited many places in the United States and overseas, as well as her beloved second home at Mexico Beach, Fl. She was an active person with many interests with her family taking highest priority. Kathy was the epitome of a true southern lady serving those she loved with a kind heart and sweet spirit.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Thomas Steele Malone; her children, Kathleen (Kay) Mayfield Scherdin of Havana, Fl., William Wesley (Wes) Mayfield and his wife, Genia, of Tallahassee, Fl., Dianne Malone Lane and her husband, Lanier, of Bainbridge, Thomas Steele (Tommy) Malone and his wife, Alice, of Havana, and Debra Smallwood Malone of McDonough, Ga.; her seven grandchildren; and her ten great-grandchildren. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Frank T. Thomasson & Kathleen M. Thomasson; her first husband, William W. Mayfield; her brother, Frank T. Thomasson, Jr.; her son, William Curtis Malone; and her son-in-law, Ronald Scherdin.
