Funeral services for Miriam Eleanor Lehman House, 89, of Cairo, Ga., are at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 16, 2019, at Pine Forest Baptist Church, Ochlocknee, Ga. Rev. Stan Godwin will officiate. Services will conclude at the church. Private interment will be in Pine Forest Baptist Church Cemetery, Ochlocknee, Ga. Mrs. House passed away at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, Ga., on Sunday, May 12, 2019.

Mrs. House was born on February 28, 1930, in the Lancaster area of Pennsylvania. She was the youngest of 10 children of the late Bishop Christian K. Lehman and Mary R. Leaman Lehman. She is a graduate of Manor High School in Millersville, Pa., and in 1954 from Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C., where she majored in Bible and Elementary Education. Miriam taught public school for many years in counties of Decatur, Grady, and Thomas. She also taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. After school retirement, she worked for the W. B. Roddenbery Company.

Miriam loved her Bible and spent many years reading and writing her comments on it. In her earlier years she crocheted Christmas dresses for some of her granddaughters, playing tennis and working in the yard. Her hardest work of all was serving the Lord as a minister’s wife.

On September 4, 1954, she married Rev. Jack House, who survives.   From that union came two sons, 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Survivors include: her husband, Jack House of Cairo, Ga.; sons, Jay P. House (Laura) of Greencastle, Pa., Jon J. House (Sandy) of Lynchburg, Va.; grandchildren, Jeremiah House, Rebeccah House, Josiah House, Anna House, Jon Justin, Jr., Kimberly House, Emily Wheelock (Derek), Heather Vasioutovitch (Pavel), Jennifer Katze (Weston), Andrew House; great-grandsons, Leeland Wheelock, Hudson Wheelock, Sawyer Wheelock; sisters, Ruth Lehman; sister-in-law, Emma Lehman, Mozell Lehman; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made in Mrs. House’s memory to: Pine Forrest Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund, 435 Pine Forest Road, Ochlocknee, Ga. 31773.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
