Post hurricane forestry meetings scheduled during month of May

The University of Georgia Warnell School of Forestry & Natural Resources, the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) Arbogen, International Forestry Company and Interfor plan to host a series of meetings to assist landowners, consulting foresters, and any other interested individuals on topics related to hurricane Michael recovery. The meeting agenda with the list of topics and speakers is available.

The meetings will occur on May 7 in Bainbridge, May 8 in Colquitt and May 9 in Cordele. A catered lunch will be provided to registrants.

The meeting in Bainbridge will be held Tuesday, May 7 at 1300 East River Road.

Registration is required within seven days of the date of the event. For Bainbridge the deadline is April 30.

Some of the topics and their speakers to be covered are: Hurricane Michael’s impact on Georgia’s Forests and Mills by Devon Dartnell (GFC); Insect and diseases post hurricanes – frequent visits to pine stands by Chip Bates (GFC); Invasive species – ID and control options – David Clabo (UGA Warnell School); Lean pines – recovery – David Dickens (Warnell); A sawmill’s perspective on the impact of Hurricane Michael – Tim Lowrimore (Interfor); GA Timber Tax Credit info and examples, Dr. Yanshu Li (Warnell); Timber Taxation and casualty losses, Dr. Yanshu Li; Reforestation options- David Dickens (Warnell School) with input from Steve Martin (GFC); Seedling availability updates, Jeff Fields (GFC) Jay Chupp (IF Co.,) and Dr. Jeffreys & Geoff Hill of Arborgen.

The day begins with registration check-in from 8:30 to 8:50 a.m. and concludes at 3:30 p.m.
