Alec Calder Hathaway was born January 22, 1931 in Alma, Ga., the son of Ben Hill and Vera Pittman Hathaway. He married Christine Sellars and they made their home in Decatur County for 66 years. A.C. retired from Georgia Industries for the Blind as a broom binder and attended Evangel Temple Assembly of God. He moved to Thomas County in 2016.

A.C. loved people. He enjoyed telling stories and listening to stories. He would say his family provided great material for his tales and he wouldn’t change one memory. A.C. would wet a hook when given the opportunity and, of course, this resulted in his favorite event, a good South GA fish fry.

Survivors include his son, Ron Hathaway and his wife, Yvonne, of Ochlocknee, Ga; his sister, Lennis Grubbs of Eldorendo, Ga.; his grandchildren, Stephanie H. & Jerry Harrell and Crystal Hathaway & David Nash; and his great-grandchildren, Austin, Cameron, Allison, Sara, Kaid, Christian, Mallary and Madison. In addition to his parents, A. C. was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Sellars Hathaway; and his siblings, Margie Lambert and James Hathaway.
