Maggie Horn Powell

Maggie Horn Powell, 97, of Brinson, Ga., passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Calvin Arnold and Rev. Marty Brock officiating.  Interment will be at Whites Bridge Cemetery with Jeff Powell, Duke Harrison, Clay Booker, Ike Powell, Cody Powell, Charlie Powell, Greg Calhoun, and Jeff Plair serving as active pallbearers.

Maggie Golden Horn was born February 4, 1922 in Donalsonville, Ga., the daughter of Isaac Kenneth Horn and Emla Adeline Johnson Horn.  She was a graduate of Brinson High School, Class of 1938, and served many years as an LPN for Miller County Health Department.  Maggie was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Family was most important to Maggie and this included her work family at the Health Department, her church family and her neighbors. Describing Maggie as a “loving mother” only scratched the surface. Her grandchildren can attest to the unconditional love and special bond she had with each of them. Maggie had a caring and compassionate nature. She spent her days caring for others and knew her home cooking could cure what ailed you.

Survivors include her children, Rex L. “Buck” Powell and his wife, Sue, of Vada, Ga., David Powell and his fiancé, Margie McClelland, of Brinson, and Pam Powell Johnson of Donalsonville; her grandchildren, Jeff & Kim Powell, Susan & Hugh Lanier, Anna & Miles Henry, Rex & Amy Powell, Dave & Nancy Powell, Todd & April Powell, Duke & Amy Harrison, Jeri & Clay Booker and Gerald & Sharon Harrison; her seventeen great-grandchildren; her two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Maggie was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Lamar Powell; her son, William J. “Bill” Powell; and her twelve brothers and sisters.
