Local winners in the American Legion Oratorical Contest

The main purpose of American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship program is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students. Other objectives include the development of leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and the preparation for acceptance of the duties and responsibilities, rights and privileges of American citizenship.

There are five levels of competition: 1) Area post level – Post #502, Inc., Bainbridge High School; 2) District level – Albany State University West, Albany; 3) Region level – Columbus, Ga.; 4) State Level – Atlanta; 5) National level – Indianapolis, Ind.

The 2019-20 Bainbridge High School contestants were: 1st place – Bryce Sweeting, 2nd place-Germaine Dudley; 3rd place-Daniel Victor. The winners advanced to the district level held in Albany at the State University West Campus on Sunday, February 3. Bryce Sweeting was awarded District 2nd place winner and Germaine Dudley was awarded District 3 winner. Both are 9th graders at Bainbridge High School.
