Lady Cats sweep Veterans, Bearcats lose close

Wednesday night the Bearcats and Lady Cats tennis teams faced off against region opponent, Veterans, where the Lady Cats made a full sweep and the Bearcats lost in a tight 3-2 score.
Lady Cats number one singles, Sydnee Burke came out swinging and won 6-2 in her first set and 6-0 in her second. Number two singles, Mikey Harrell didn’t give up a single point in her first set and won 6-1 in her second set. Number three singles, Gracie Surratt won 6-1, 6-2.
Determined to keep up the wins, number one doubles, Bree Powell and Jade Stacey won their match 6-3, 6-1 and number two doubles, Sarah Caroline Darley and Anna Marie Hall won their sets 6-2, 6-1.
The Bearcats started off with a win.
Number one singles, Cole Buchanan won 7-5, 6-4. However, number two singles, Austin Aldridge played a three set match against Veterans, Noah Goff and couldn’t clench the last point. He came up just short 1-6, 7-5, 8-10.
Number three singles, Blake Lowe also played a three set match and barely lost against Nathan Farmer with a score of 2-6, 4-6, 6-10.
Number one doubles continued the three set trend and fell just short in their final match. Lawson Humphrey and Brent Miller had a score of 5-7, 6-2, 6-10.
Number two doubles, Brad and Ben Mitchell broke the three set streak and won in two sets 6-4, 7-6.
Coach Amy Thomas was proud of the Bearcats.
“It was very close, but a great match,” she said.
Thomas is hoping Robert Bryan Shockley is able to return for the region tournament, which begins April 11. Shockley is currently out due to injuries, but the team is ready for him to be back and show region what he is made of.
