A public reception will be held Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at the Firehouse Arts Center to open the Spring Decatur County Artists Guild Exhibit.

On Tuesday evening the entries were judged by out-of-town artist, Dan Taylor, of Tallahassee. Taylor has judged for many exhibits in the area, including the Chain of Parks in Tallahassee.

This was his first time to judge in Bainbridge, and he expressed surprise by the wide range and depth of the artwork found here.  “The depth of the talent here is amazing,” he said, as he studied each entry and prepared to rate them. He was also impressed with the Firehouse Arts Center as a venue. There are 70 entries this year covering a wide spectrum of subjects in each division.

The works are divided into categories, included are photography, two dimension works (oils, acrylics, watercolors and mixed media) and three dimension works (sculpture, textiles, wood carving and ceramics.)

There will be a first, second and third place, plus honorable mention in each category, all chosen by Taylor, who will then designate the Best in Show.

Attendees at the reception will have a chance to vote for their favorite entry, and a People’s Choice winner will be announced at the close of Thursday evening.

The exhibit will be open two weekends, with Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.

The Decatur County Artists Guild has monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of the month. They meet at the Firehouse Kirbo Gallery at 6 p.m. Membership fees are $25 for the year and they do two shows a year. Besides the Spring show, there is a Fall showing in October at the Public Library.
