It’s a girl’s night

Sometimes after a long, hard week full of ups and downs all you want to do is curl up on the couch with your best girlfriends and watch a rom com, while doing a face mask. I call it a girl’s night and I’ve had two this week and the week isn’t even over.
I have a new roommate and our schedules don’t always coincide, so when we finally do get some girl time together we make the best of it. Mondays are always for the girls, because we all know “Saturdays are for the boys.” We lounge on the couch until the clock strikes 8 p.m. and our friends come over and that’s when The Bachelor comes on.
We don’t want any distractions, all we want is some really good snacks like Cheez-Its or chips and dip and to find out who is getting the rose this week. We sit there and analyze all the outfits and laugh at the dramatics of the women, always saying we will audition for next season. It truly puts me in the best mood to begin my week.
Come about Thursday, the stress has kicked in. She’s got homework and I have bills and stories and the weight of the world on my shoulders. That’s when I pipe up that we need another girl’s night.
We aren’t watching a show this time; we are renting a movie and still eating snacks and candy, but we are even adding more fun! We put on our facemask that guarantee healthier skin and a less stressful environment and pick out what movie demands our attention for the night. Last time it was American Pie, so I picked something this go round.
After the movie is over we lay around and just talk about life and then I usually get a makeup tutorial because my routine is fairly nonexistent. We laugh as she brings out the dreaded eyelash curler. I’ve had my eyelashes get stuck in it before and I’m genuinely terrified of that thing. Just thinking about it makes me twitch.
We finally jump that hurdle and I look in the mirror at a much better looking version of myself and try to remember everything she just taught me before we lay down in my bed and start recounting all the day’s events and sharing the latest gossip we have about boys or friends or anything really. We call it “spilling the tea.”
Living with your friend already makes every night like a slumber party, but a girl’s night is like the ultimate slumber party you used to only get on your birthday. Somehow, I’m lucky enough to score them twice a week now. I encourage everyone to treat themselves to a girl’s night, even if it only consist of a face mask while eating a cheese board. They are guaranteed to make every night better.
