GCA wins first round of state 81-66

Tuesday night the GCA Cougars Basketball team dominated their state game against Rock Spring Christian in Milner with an 81-66 win and now will advance to the state quarterfinals.
The Cougars came out on fire, scoring 22 points in the first quarter. Jaylen Jones scored three 3-pointers and a total of 15 points in the quarter. Chasen Wood also shot his own 3-pointer and De’Andre Rogers scored four points.
The Cougars continued to find the net in the second quarter, scoring a total of 15 points. Jeb Smith scored six of those, with Jones scoring seven and Rogers scoring two.
Coming into the second half, it was nothing but net for Jones, scoring 15 out of the 20 points in the third quarter.
Rogers put up two points on the board and Smith three.
In the final quarter, Smith scored another 3-pointer, while Seth Parker scored four points, Rogers scored five points and Jones scored 12.
Coach Shavon Brown was very proud of his team.
“Tuesday night’s game had a mirror effect, Rocky Springs team is basically Grace team, we just shown growth with our perseverance in tough times like the 3rd quarter & finished the game strong. If we all buy into the motto of one game at a time, the family(players, coaches, fans) of Grace will continue to succeed,” Brown said.
The Cougars will play again Saturday night at 7 p.m. against Habersham School, number one seed in Region two. The game will be played at Brewton Parker. Those unable to attend can look for pictures
