Friday afternoon, Abigail Gardner signed a scholarship to play softball at LaGrange College, while surrounded by family, friends and coaches.
Gardner has played softball for the Lady Cats the past four years as a first baseman and pitcher.
“This really shows how much effort she has put in not only this season, but over the years,” Coach Christopher Bryant said. “Colleges really picked up on her talents. We recognized it, but now she is able to take it to other programs and put that effort into their team.”
Gardner actually had several options to choose from, but after touring LaGrange she said she just fell in love and knew that’s where she wanted to be.
“Nothing about it reminded me of home, but I think that’s why I chose it,” she said. “It’s something new to explore.”
Gardner will continue to play pitcher and first base on her new team. She is especially excited about her new team, and that is one thing she will always remember about her time at BHS. The friendships she gained from her team here will always have a place in her heart. She said she hopes to have a close-knit team at LaGrange, because after the game everyone still wants to spend time together and hang out.
Gardner said one of the second basemen from her travel ball team in Atlanta has also committed to LaGrange and they may become roommates, which made her feel comfortable knowing at least one person.
Gardner plans to play all four years at LaGrange, unless she graduates early, while majoring in exercise science and focusing in pre-physical therapy.
Gardner thanked everyone for their support and cannot wait to start this new adventure in her life.
