Bearcat basketball snags Region win in overtime buzzer beater

The Bearcats basketball team won 71-69 in overtime Saturday night on a thrilling buzzer beater shot.

Bainbridge now sits at 2-4 in the Region 1-AAAAA field (9-12 overall), good enough for fourth place. There is some possibility for advancement, however, as the Bearcats host Warner Robins this Friday and travel to Thomas County Central on Saturday.

In double figures for the Bearcats were TJ Tarver with 22 points, Anthony Florence with 16 points and Deyon Bouie and Dewayne Kyles with 12 points each. Other scorers for the Bearcats were Tyrell Bryant with 4, Jeremiah Davis with 3 points and Bryce Jones with 2 points.

The Lady Cats didn’t fair quite as well, dropping a 52-32 decision to the Lady Warhawks at home. The girls are now 10-12 (1-5 Region).

In double figures for the Lady Cats was Zycheria Russ with 15 points. Other scorers for the Lady Cats were Ziauna Andrews with 6 points, Destiny Turner and Tykeia Campbell with 4 points each and Mycha Myers Harris with 3 points.

Both the Bearcats and Lady Cats dropped games against Harris County last Friday.

In double figures for the Lady Cats were Detavia Salter with 13, Zycheria Russ with 12 points and Ziauna Andrews with 10 points. Other scorers for the Lady Cats were Taralyn Brown with 4 points, Denise Chappell with 3 points and Destiny Turner and Mycha Myers Harris with 2 points each.

In double figures for the Bearcats were Jeremiah Davis with 13 points, Deyon Bouie with 11 points and Anthony Florence with 10 points. Other scorers for the Bearcats were Dewayne Kyles with 9 points, TJ Tarver with 7 points,Tyrell Bryant with 6 points, JaKorian Lockhart with 4 points and Kalun Brown and Dwayne Kyles with 2 points each.

The Bearcats J.V. team has been a shining spot in the Bainbridge basketball program this season. The boys won their 12th game last Saturday 42-35. K.J. Cochran led the team with 13 points. The J.V. Lady Cats have also been strong, improving to 8-3 after beating Harris County 25-15.

The Bainbridge Lady Cats tip off against Warner Robins at 5 p.m. Friday, followed by the Bearcats game at 6:30 p.m.
