Mr. Louie F. Barr, age 83, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, Tallahassee, Florida. Services for Mr. Barr will be held at
11 am., Friday, January 18, at Spring Creek Baptist Church, Donalsonville, Georgia. The Rev. Brian Hatchett and Mr. Luke Watson will be officiating. Interment will be held in Spring Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Clay Houston, Hugh Wright, Myron Parker, Josh Key, Cory Satterfield, and Nick Cook will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, beginning at 10:00 am.
Louie Frank Barr was born August 1, 1935 in Dale County, Alabama, to Hugh Barr and Reaber Sasser Barr. He married Mary Alice Addison Barr, who preceded him in death on August 14, 2018. He and Mary Alice were married over 60 years. Louie was a talented sheet metal worker and roofer. He served in the Army National Guard. Described as a “man’s man”, Louie enjoyed fishing and playing golf. He loved the Atlanta Braves and was a die-hard Auburn fan. He never met a stranger and, once your friend, was your friend for life. But, mostly, Louie was about family. He dearly and deeply loved every member of his family. Louie Barr will be sorely missed by his family and many, many friends.
Louie F. Barr is survived by his daughter, Linda Gail Houston and husband, Tyler of Donalsonville; sisters, Nell Wright of Bainbridge and Becky Strickland and husband, Jerry of Ariton, Alabama; grandchildren, Lisa Salter of Bainbridge, Jennifer Parker and husband, Myron of South Carolina, Clay Houston of Donalsonville, and Kerie Jeffrey and husband, Jason of Florida; 9 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings, James Barr, Carlton Barr, Barbara Tomlin, and J.T. Barr.
Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Barr’s honor to the American Heart Association, 10 Glenlake Parkway N.E., South Tower, Suite 400, Atlanta, Georgia 30328.
