Charles William Green was born May 12, 1948, in Bainbridge, Ga., the son of R.E. and Dicey Griner Green. He was a graduate of Attapulgus High School, Class of 1966 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Charles married Rita Cumbie in 1969 and they made their home in Attapulgus.. Charles was a contractor by trade and an active member and deacon of Attapulgus Baptist Church.

Homebodies who like to travel usually do so in an RV with friends. Charles was that guy. He studied maps and loved watching weather so he quickly became the go-to person for locations and weather predictions. His love for the outdoors included fishing trips and riding motorcycles. As a contractor, you could be sure he was always tinkering in his woodworking shop on the next project.

Survivors include his wife of almost 50 years, Rita C. Green; his sons, Chris Green of Tallahassee, Fla. and Tracy Green and his wife, Anna, of Marietta, Ga.; his siblings, Louise Hecht of Jacksonville, Fla. and R.L. Green of Attapulgus; his grandchildren, Henry, Davis, Kayla and Justin; his great-granddaughter, Emory Claire; and his loyal companion, Cooper. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his siblings, Mildred Brock, Sarah Richardson and Eugene Green.
