Virginia Strickland Curry, aged 79, of Climax, Georgia passed away suddenly on Sunday, December 23rd, 2018, in Bainbridge, Georgia, of natural causes.  Virginia Strickland was born on July 21st, 1939, in Chipley, Florida to Oal Lynwood Strickland and Isa Mildred Griner Strickland.  She graduated as the Salutatorian of the West Bainbridge High School Class 1957.  On August 8th, 1958 she married Hugh Curry, Sr. of Whigham, Georgia, and they lived in Tallahassee, Florida for many years before permanently moving to Climax in 1999.  Virginia retired from the Florida Department of Natural Resources after 33 years of public service.  She was a great cook, and her family believes her Thanksgiving dressing could have won national cooking awards.  She loved to fish when she could and was an avid reader.  Virginia also enjoyed spending time with friends and family, and making long trips to visit them when she was physically able.  She had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Virginia Strickland Curry is survived by her husband of 60 years, Hugh Curry, Sr, her son Hugh Curry, Jr. (Barbara) of Fairfax, Va. and daughter Chris Curry of Climax.  She has four grandchildren, Jamie St. John (Noah) of Durham, NC, and Sarah Leanne, Matthew Aaron, and Jacob Eric Curry all of Fairfax.  She also has three great-grandchildren, Claire Curry, Isa Grace and Deacon Thomas St John of Durham, NC.  She also has many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved and adored.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Herbert and Glen, who are survived by their spouses, Jackie of Dothan, Ala., and Rosa of Tallahassee, respectively.

Services for Mrs. Curry will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 29th, 2018, at the Cadwell Chapel of Cox Funeral Home, Bainbridge, Georgia.  The Rev. Ryan Zearing will officiate.  Craig Curry, David Curry, Curt Curry, Bo Tate, Michael Shelley, Noah St. John, Steven Hoppe, and Ben Curry will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, December 27th, at Cox Funeral Home.
