Thursday night the GCA Cougars faced off against out of region opponent, SGA where they won 60-51.

“We stayed calm and humble throughout the entire situation,” Brown said. “They tried to pressure us, but we persevered through.”

SGA is one of the Cougars’ tougher competitors and is the top team they have played thus far. Brown said he was happy to see how the team reacted in a high-pressure situation and shows promise for their next tough game.

Brown said everyone contributed to the success, even the teammates who were on the bench. However, Jaylen Jones netted the most points and really pushed the team forward. Jones scored 27 points for the team, followed by teammates Branch Austinson and Wyatt Carpenter, who scored eight points each.

“All the boys really played great,” Brown said.

Brown is already busy preparing the team for their next difficult game against Highland on Thursday night.

Brown said the team saw Highland play at their tournament in Dothan and know what they are capable of.

“It should be a very interesting game,” Brown said.

Following that, the team will play region opponent Sherwood on Saturday, December 15, and the team is looking forward to leaving it all on the court.

The team will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday against Highland and 5:30 against Sherwood on Saturday.
