Margaret was the Chief Appraiser & Assessor for Decatur County, retiring with 40 years of service. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Margaret enjoyed her work at the Tax Assessor’s Office and treated the folks she worked with like her family. She was the first woman appointed to the Board of Appraisers and later served as the Chairman. She also served on the first Planning Commission for Decatur County. Margaret enjoyed music and working in her yard. She often played the piano and sang to her precious Westie, Peaches. Outside of the Tax Assessor’s Office, Margaret is probably best known for the sour cream pound cakes she made for Boyd’s BBQ.

Survivors include her husband of almost 67 years, Thomas E. Marchant, Sr.; her son, Tommy Marchant and his wife, Gayla, of Mobile, Ala; her grandchildren, Chris & Autumn Marchant and Jennifer & Jimmy Beavers; her great-grandchildren, Cadence and Spencer; her sister, Annette Rabon of Tallahassee; and her special sister-in-law, Jean Strickland. In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her brothers, Bruce, Cecil and Bobby Strickland; and her little Westie dog, Peaches who was the love of her life.
