Decatur County School System is hoping to resume classes on Wednesday, October 24, 2018.
Superintendent Tim Cochran said all non- instructional staff will report to work on Monday, with teachers, Para pros and nurses rejoining on Tuesday. The students will hopefully report to school on Wednesday, if everything goes correctly Cochran said.
During the storm, the school lost a quarter of a million dollars in food. Cochran said they are waiting for more food to be shipped back in, as they have just finished cleaning out all of the freezers at the schools.
Cochran said he realizes all bus routes may not be clear for a while, but they plan to do the best they can.
Crews have been working to restore the schools over the past three days, but Potter Street Elementary saw significant damage. Cochran said the storm took a serious toll on the gym, so they will have to bring in mobile units to PSE.
He explained the school had just been having one class at a time for physical education so it should not have a huge impact, but students will now just go outside or to the mobile unit instead of the gym. Cochran said they might not have full access to the gym until February.
Cochran will continue to update students and faculty in the event anything changes through email.
