Monday night the GCA Lady Cougars volleyball team took on Sherwood Christian Academy. The team had previously lost to SCA in a five set finish, but Monday they turned the tables and won in another close set of five.

The team came out fighting hard, but lost their first set 22-25. With everyone playing their best, the loss could only be attributed to their new

rotations and team set up. Dani Parker, who played libero for the team is out for the season and was replaced by two freshmen, who eagerly took their spots for this much anticipated game.

They showed a lot of skill and helped make plays for their teammates in the second set, winning 25-18.

However, they came up just short in their third set, losing 21-25.

The team held nothing back in their fourth set, going point for point and eventually coming out victorious 25-22.

Going into the final set, both teams were chomping at the bit and ready for a win. Junior, Caroline Wells especially wanted the win, and made 21 kills, throughout the sets, with some of her major kills in the final game, leading them to a victory of 15-12.

The team cheered and hugged after a long battle against the SCA Eagles. Coach Mardi McRae was proud of the girls and said she knew how much they wanted this and were willing to fight for it.

She was proud of not only Wells for making kills, but also Lainey McRae for making 12. She knows they couldn’t have made these kills without the help of setter, Emma Benedict and is happy they could all come together.

Avery Andrews and Mary Glenn Warr also were key components in last night’s game, leading in digs for the team.

The team will continue to work out their new rotations and become stronger as they head into region, hoping to come out with a win.
