Betty Joanna High was born December 4, 1945, in Sarasota, Fla., the daughter of Leo Alton High and Evelyn June Plyler High. She made Bainbridge her home 44 years ago. Joanna worked as a gardening associate at Home Depot and was a member of West Street Baptist Church.
Joanna was known for her green thumb. She enjoyed gardening and decided to share her gift by getting paid for her hobby. She made many acquaintances in the garden department at Home Depot that developed into lasting friendships. She loved life and tried to live each day to the fullest. She would cast a line at the drop of a hat and spin a fishing tale like no other. Friends and family were very important to her and if you added in a fish fry she counted it as complete. You never had to wonder where you stood; if Joanna thought it, she said it.
Survivors include her children, Missy Smith and her husband, Terry, Milly Gilbourn and her husband, Greg, and Bradley D. Allen, all of Bainbridge; her siblings, Ruby Barlow of Vada, Ga. and Buddy High of Doerun, Ga.; her grandchildren, Chad, Ashley, Josh, Kole, Christopher and Tucker; and her great-grandchildren, Rylan, Landyn, Carrington, Cannon and Tilly. In addition to her parents, Joanna was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Chandlor Grace Smith.
