The middle school and varsity Lady Cougars volleyball team had a tough matchup against Sherwood this week, where they came out in a narrow loss, but made up for it in straight wins against Robert F. Munroe on Thursday afternoon.

The Middle School team is coached by Kellie Gay and were undefeated in region play before heading

into the Sherwood double header on Tuesday. The team had beat Georgia Christian and Highland Christian twice, but unfortunately dropped both of the games in straight sets at the double header.

The team didn’t let it get to them, though and came out in Thursday’s game against RFM, winning in straight sets of 25-6, 25-20.

They will compete for the region championship on Tuesday against Sherwood again, where they are hoping to bring home a win. The winner will then advance to semifinals on Saturday, October 6 at Trinity Christian in Sharpsburg.

The Varsity girls had a tough game against Sherwood as well. They took it into five sets.

“We’ve taken a set from Sherwood in the past, but never taken them to five sets,” Coach Rhonda Wells said.

Wells said the team played well and there were only seven serving errors the entire five set game.

Kate McRae and Dani Parker were reported to have 100 percent in their serves, and the hitting average as a whole was 85 percent.

The sets played were 30-25, 25-18, 18-25, 25-22, 9-15. Coming off their loss, the team didn’t hold back against RFM. Emma Benedict had 100 percent in her serves and the team won 25-15, 25-20, and 25-13.
