Late last Friday evening into the early hours of Saturday, Aug. 25, Georgia State Patrol and Decatur County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal accident on Georgia Highway 1.
GSP Trooper Daniel Joiner said James Clees and Korie Seagull were traveling North on the Highway in the right hand lane, when for unknown reasons Clees struck the back of Seagull’s scooter.
Seagull was fully ejected from his scooter onto the roadway. It is reported after the accident his scooter also caught fire.
Officers looked for signs of Clees to have been distracted while driving or any signs of intoxication. They confiscated his cell phone, Joiner said and Clees voluntarily took a blood test. Joiner said they have no reason to believe he was in any way inhibited.
Officers contacted Seagull’s family and Bruton Mortuary will be in charge of his arrangements.
