Bainbridge FFA member and FFA Alumni member selected the serve on GJSB state board

Taylor Barber and Kameron Landeen were recently selected to serve on the state board for the Georgia Junior Swine Boosters Association.

The GJSB Program was established to support, reward, and enhance the educational experiences of the Georgia Junior Swine Exhibitors. The GJSB membership is open to anyone who has an interest in a junior swine project. The GJSB was established to support and promote the Georgia Junior Swine Projects,to provide incentives and encourage greater participation in junior swine project and to teach a greater understanding of meat animal evaluation, livestock husbandry, showmanship and sportsmanship.

BHS FFA Alumni member, Kameron Landeen was elected to serve as a Senior Board director for the GJSB association. This will be her second year serving on the GJSB state board.  Kameron graduated from Bainbridge High School in 2015 as an Honor Graduate and proudly participated in several clubs and organizations including: Decatur County 4-H, Bainbridge FFA Chapter, Anchor Club, National Junior Honor Society, Bainbridge Middle and High School Soccer Teams, Bainbridge Livestock Show Team, Georgia Junior Swine Boosters, and National Junior Swine Association. Kameron  had no previous background in showing or raising livestock, but she began showing pigs in the 10th grade when close family encouraged her to show.

She have been showing for six years now at the county, state, and national level. She can honestly say that she and her family have been fortunate enough that our hard work has paid off, and she has found a passion  never would have expected.

Kameron’s greatest experience in the showing has been exhibiting the Reserve Grand Champion Market Barrow in 2015 at the Georgia Junior National Livestock Show. Kameron is currently attending Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and her future plans include transferring to UGA-Tifton for a bachelor’s in Agriscience & Environmental Systems and a master’s in Plant Protection and Pest Management to pursue a future career with UGA Extension.

BHS FFA member, Taylor Barber was elected to serve as a Junior Board member for the GJSB association.This will be her third year serving on the state GJSB board.

Taylor is a senior at Bainbridge High School. She is actively involved in the FFA where she serves as the 2018-2019 Sentinel. In addition, she is involved with the Decatur County 4H Club where she serves as the President. She is an ambassador for the Georgia National Fairgrounds, a member of the National Honor Society, and she is also an  active member in the National Junior Swine Association. Taylor began exhibiting livestock when she was only four years old.

She has shown livestock all over the country and on the local, state and national levels. Some of Taylor’s most memorable accomplishments are exhibiting the Grand Champion Market Barrow at the Georgia National Livestock Show in 2013 and 2017, exhibiting the Reserve Champion Duroc Gilt at the National Junior Swine Association Southeast Regionals and exhibiting the 2018 Grand Champion Market Steer at the Georgia National Livestock Show.

After graduating high school this May, she plans to pursue a degree in Veterinary Medicine with an emphasis on genetics at the University of Georgia and become a Veterinarian.

These two young ladies have been assets in the Bainbridge High School FFA Chapter and in their communities. We wish the best of luck to Taylor and Karmeron as they complete their year of service on the state board for  Georgia Junior Swine Booster association.
