Joan Smith Cochran, 86, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmy Melvin officiating.  Private interment will be held at Oak City Cemetery.

Billie Joan Smith was born October 13, 1931, in Bainbridge, the daughter of Ralph Clarence Smith and Kathrine Kirbo Smith. She was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1948. Joan earned an Associate Degree in Secretarial Science from North Georgia College. She married William Raymond Cochran and they established their home in Bainbridge. Joan worked as an executive assistant at Miller Hydro and as an Administrative Services Supervisor for the Georgia Department of Probation. She loved assisting Marlene’s Florist with weddings and keeping her yard beautiful. Joan was a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors include her children, Bill Cochran and his wife, Beth, of Leslie, Ga., Kay Cochran Campbell and her husband, Stuart, of Canton, Ga., and Jan Cochran Brock and her husband, Gerry, of Fayetteville, Ga.; her siblings, Bob Smith and his wife, Paula, of Thomasville, Ga., Charles Smith and his wife, Patricia, of Bainbridge, Bennie S. Turknett and her husband, Bobby, of Bainbridge, Anne S. Wilder and her husband, Clayton, of Tallahassee, Fla.; her brother-in-law, Dan Lyons of Auburn, Ala.; her sister-in-law, Barbara Smith of Bainbridge; her grandchildren, Jim Douglas, Jr., Will Douglas, David Douglas and Caleb Cochran; and her great-grandson, Parker Douglas. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Cochran; and her siblings, Ethel Smith Lyons and Ralph C. Smith, Jr.
