On May 6, 2018, Billy M. Bishop (Bill) of High Springs, Florida, passed away in Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, Tennessee, due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was 80 years of age. Bill is pre-deceased by his father, John M. Bishop, his mother, Mary E. Bishop, and infant son, Billy M. Bishop, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Bishop, son, Michael David Bishop, blended daughter, Gretchen Ann Baugh, grandson, Joseph Michael Bishop, blended grandsons, Colby and Jacob Baugh, great-granddaughter, Josie Bishop and by his siblings Betty Bishop, Bobbie Sellars, Barbara O’Donnell, Brenda Hester and Benny J. Bishop.

Bill will be remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Bill was born October 13, 1937, and graduated from Attapulgus High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy, where he was trained as an air traffic controller(AC),  serving on the USS Randolph.  After the Navy, Bill joined the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller, instructor and earned his BA degree from Jones College in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1980.  Bill traveled the open seas on a sailboat, with his wife Carol, for many years.  He enjoyed sailing, fishing, diving, RVing, and had a passion for motorcycles.  Most recently, Bill became a chestnut farmer.  He was a man that dearly loved his family and friends and enriched the lives of those around him.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Bill’s life is planned for Saturday, June 9, at 11 a.m. at the Attapulgus Baptist Church, located at 206 Church Street, Attapulgus, Georgia, with Rev. Jerry Bishop and Rev. Donna Sue Waller Roberts officiating.
