On Tuesday of this week, the Decatur County Senior Center began offering Tai Chi classes for persons age 60 and above for only $10 for 8 sessions.

Classes are being led on Tuesdays through June 26 by Robin McCord, fitness coordinator from the Albany office of SOWEGA.

The exercises are slow, measured and aimed to help persons with conditions such as arthritis or muscle tensions. They begin with a series of slow neck movements aimed to loosen up tension, followed by spinal straitening, gentle shoulder raises, and spinal exercises, allĀ while sitting down.

This week they began with the basics, and each Tuesday they will repeat what was learned in the past week, while learning new techniques.

The public is encouraged to come next Tuesday at 1 p.m. to see how they may find help for some of their physical complaints.

This is just one of the services offered by SOWEGA. They are holding an open house this Friday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. for the public to come see what other programs are offered.
