Lots of great players getting a chance at the pros

There weren’t too many surprises in the 2018 NFL draft, but it will be fun to watch these players’ careers blossom or shrivel over the next few years.

The comparisons of Baker Mayfield to Johnny Manziel are rampant, and I can understand why. Mayfield is a competitor that put himself in the spotlight, both positively and negatively, while at Oklahoma the past couple of years. He had a great senior season in terms of on-the-field numbers, but also showed red flags with his attitude and behavior.

Regardless, he was the No. 1 overall pick to the Cleveland Browns. I guess I have to get used to seeing him, because I’ll definitely be watching him hand the ball off to Nick Chubb (second round pick, 35th overall) on Sundays.

I’m a little surprised with how far Josh Rosen fell, all the way to 10th to the Cardinals. I’m even more surprised how far Lamar Jackson dropped. I don’t think he’ll be a great NFL quarterback, but I figured he’d go higher than 32nd to the Ravens. Alabama absolutely dominated the draft with 12 players getting picked up. That’s as much as a recruiting tactic for the Crimson Tide as the championship trophies and state of the art facilities. A very impressive group of athletes, that class.

Up in New England, two Dawgs will be joining the Patriots, offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn and running back Sony Michel. These two have been friends since rooming together during their high school days at Rivals camps. Great gets for New England. I’ll be watching them closely, even if I can’t stand the team.
