Lady Cats soccer finishes season on a winning streak

The Bainbridge High School girls varsity soccer team wrapped up their season last Thursday by travelling to Americus and defeating the Americus-Sumter High School Lady Panthers 2-0.

The Lady Bearcats took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute of the first half, on a goal by by Senior Midfielder Kamerin Timmons.

On the scoring play Bainbridge Sophomore Midfielder Taylor Emmons lofted a corner kick to the Lady Panther six yard box. Timmons seizing an opportunity, quickly settled the ball and got off a shot with her right foot but it was deflected, but alertly followed up with a left foot shot that found its way into the goal.

In the second half the Lady Bearcats scored their second and final goal of the game in the 49th minute, on a scoring shot by Sophomore Midfielder Jamya Brinson .

Bainbridge Sophomore Defender Noelle Tyre started the play by heaving a throw in over the Lady Panther defense to an open Brinson. The crafty midfielder then streaked for a breakaway past the Lady Panther defense,  finishing with a crossing shot, from 16 yards out, to the far post for the score.

Although Bainbridge had control thoughout the contest, with several shots at the goal, Americus-Sumter also created attacks, in each half, but were dealt with a strong defensive effort that kept them scoreless. The Bainbridge back line of Tyre, Sandy Baker, Mackenzie Pickle, Alison Mathews, Ivey Christopher, and Goal Keeper Keilaya Pryor kept the Lady Panthers scoreless with a tough defensive effort. Pryor was credited with the shutout with three saves.

Bainbridge extended their winning streak to three games, with all being shutouts, as they finished the season with a record of 6-11.

Seniors playing in their last game as Lady Cats, were Forward Paige Stegall, a starter who was on the varsity for four years, Timmons, a three year starter, Matthews who also played for three years, and Midfielder Courtney Clark, who played for two. Each of the seniors contributed to the team with hustle and a toughness throughout the course of the season.
