BMS Lady Cats take second place, Bearcats claim third at Middle School Championship

The Cats and Lady Cats Middle School Track Teams competed in the Dougherty County Middle School Championship Track Meet at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany, Georgia on April 12. The Lady Cats finished 2nd and the Cats finished 3rd.

The boys’ track meet started off with the 4×100, where Zion Bouie, Devonte Stepney, Tevon Moore and Devon Bouie placed 2nd with a time of 45.70. In the 4×400 relay, Latrell Jackson, Devonte Stepney, Trevon Campbell and Devon Bouie placed 1st, with Tyler Scott, Kelmari Glover, Tevon Moore and Ahmari Bordon placing 4th with a time of 4:03:59.

Devon Bouie continued to be successful in his individual events, placing 3rd in the 100 M, with a time of 11.85 and first in high jump, with a distance of 5’-6.”

Trevon Campbell also had a successful day. He placed first in triple jump with a distance of 38”-2,” second in high jump and 8th in long jump.

Ahmari Bordon came home with a first place medal in the 800 M as well in the 1600 M, with a time of  2:20:11 and 5:29:00.

Other individual finishes included Zion Bouie in eighth place for the 100 M, Devonte Stepney in second place for the 400 M, Latrell Jackson in third for the 400 M, Devetress Green in sixth for the 800 M, Luevano Diego in 8th for the 1600 M, Stephon Henderson in sixth for the long jump and the triple jump, and Jason Mitchell in seventh for discus and 8th for shot put.

Coach, Larry Clark, said,  Trevon Campbell, Devon Bouie, Devonte Stepney and Ahmari Bordon performed very well while leading the boys to a 3rd place finish.”

The girls’ team was successful in the 4×100 as well, winning with a time of 51.30. The team was made up of Elexis Warren, Ivanna Stroud, Angel Peterson and Nya Blocker.

This was the first of Blocker’s many wins for the day. She placed first in the 200 M and the 400 M, with a time of 26.32 and 1:02.05. She also placed first in the long jump, with a distance of 15’-3.”

Coach Clark was pleased with her performance as well.

“Nyla Blocker had outstanding performances in all three individual events,” he said. “Her times and distances are equal to the average high school student. She has potentials of being an outstanding track performer at the high school level. She did a great job of leading our girls to a 2nd place finish.”

Blocker also participated in the 4×400, where her team came in fourth place with a time of 4:50.97. Her team included Angel Peterson, Ivanna Stroud and Marquita Jakes. The other 4×400 team, comprised of Ja’Davis McIntyre, Saraiyah Porter, Courtney Sanders, Chynae Palmer came in seventh place with a time of 4:53.04.

Individual finishes included Angel Peterson with a seventh place finish in the 100 M and third place finish in the long jump, Elexis Warren with a seventh place finish in the 200 M, Jakirra Neal with a seventh place finish in the 1600 M Run, Kenidy Hall with a fifth place finish in the high jump, Ivanna Stroud with a fifth place finish in the triple jump.

Treasure Jenkins had great individual success in the shot put, coming in first place with a distance of 34’-6” and second place in the discus with a distance of 86’-0”. Raven Jenkins came in fist place in the discus with a distance of 97’-2” and Taralyn Brown came in second in shot put with a distance of 30’-0.”
