Bainbridge Rotarians, with assistance from BHS Rotary Interact Club members, lined up to assemble food packets for Kids Against Hunger at the regular meeting on Tuesday.
The filled containers were then placed in boxes, 33 of which will stay in Decatur County and go to the Food Bank dispersed at First Methodist Church.
Each package contains meal ingredients formulated by food scientists to provide a source of rich, digestible protein, carbohydrates and vitamins. Contents are white rice, crushed soy, a blend of six dehydrated vegetables and 21 vitamins and minerals. By adding six cups of boiling water to one packet, it easily prepares six nutritionally complete servings at a cost of only 25 cents per serving.
The remaining boxes will be returned to the Cairo branch of the international organization. They may be kept for other Georgia families, or sent overseas.
