John E. Franklin, 66, of Climax, Ga., passed away Friday, April 6, 2018.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Poppell officiating.  Interment will follow at Beulah Thomas Baptist Church Cemetery with Jerry Brewer, Dennis Dollar, Joe Barlow, Larry Elkins, Tony Cruz and Donnie Peak serving as active pallbearers.

John Ervin Franklin was born May 10, 1951, in Alton, Ohio, the son of James and Nora Coon Franklin. He graduated from high school and chose to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. John married Evelyn Godwin and made his home for over 25 years in the Climax Community. After retiring as an iron worker, he spent sixteen years with Peaks Septic Tank Service.

This kind hearted man, known as “Willie” to his friends, would share anything he had. He was always working or tinkering with something. When he decided to take a day off, John loved going to the beach. Family and friends remember his wonderful sense of humor that brought laughter even amongst the tears.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn G. Franklin; his children, Ginger Brown (Dennis) of Fort Rucker, Ala., Jennifer “Rosie” Canaday (Casey) of Gallipolis, Ohio, Joni Danielle Price (Aaron) of Gallipolis, James Franklin (Carrie) also of Gallipolis, Daniel Anderson (Sonya) of Mobley, Missouri, and Christy Anderson of Kearney, Missouri; his siblings, Vickie Brumfield (Terry) and Peggy Roberts (Rodney) of Gallipolis, Sharon Kelly of Enterprise, Ala., Terry Coats (John) of Iron City, Ga., Joe Franklin (Frances) of Colquitt, Ga., and Jimmy Franklin (Trish) of Knoxville, Tenn.; his sixteen grandchildren; and a special niece and nephew, Joe & Jennifer Kimbrel of Albany, Ga. and Louise & Rick McCall of Leesburg, Ga.. John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bobby Franklin.
