The community is mourning the loss of Adam Taylor, 30, a Decatur County firefighter who suddenly died while off duty last week

Officials say Taylor was working a shift last Saturday when he left early, saying he wasn’t feeling well. Less than an hour later, he was found dead.

According to Decatur County Fire Chief Charlie McCann, Taylor suffered from a heart attack. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation performed an autopsy on his body, which is standard protocol for a man who died so young with no history of medical issues.

Taylor has been a firefighter in Decatur County since 2012. He leaves behind a wife, Kristin McCann Taylor, and two 10-month-old twins.

Van Eakin, who had worked with Taylor for more than 6 years at Decatur County Fire and Rescue, said Taylor was an excellent father, husband and friend.

“Adam and I have been fairly tight,” Eakin said. “We have hung out with our families together, whether it be supper or just a get together. We have got pretty tight throughout the last several years. You couldn’t ask for a more loyal friend. I would consider Adam as part of our family.”
