Bainbridge tennis drops season finale to Maclay

The Bearcats and Lady Bearcats played hard but faced a tough loss on their final game of the regular season against Maclay.

The Lady Bearcats lost 3-7, with their wins coming from key players, Gracie Surratt, Mikey Harrell, and Sydnee Burke.

Surratt and Harrell began by playing a doubles match, where they lost 5-8, but brought home a victory when they performed individually. Surratt won 8-4 and Harrell won 8-2. Burke won her match 8-1.

Masen Jones lost 0-8, along with Piper Harrell but both played a strong game. Madison Wiggins also played her best, but eventually lost 3-8.

Jade Stacey and Bree Powell played a close match and barely lost 7-9. Mackenzie Thomas and Anna Marie Hall nearly won their game as well, coming in close at 5-8. Megan Meszaros and Sarah Caroline Darley finished up with a tough loss of 1-8.

The Bearcats lost 3-7, but senior Mark Loeffler finished off the night with a win.

Loeffler started off the night with a win of 8-2. Dalton Savage also pulled in a win of 8-6.

Robert Shockley played a close game of 6-8 along with Blake Lowe. Austin Aldridge lost 5-8, and Hudson Barber played the closest game of the night, but falling just short at 8-9.

“Everybody played really well,” Loeffler said. “There were a lot of close matches, but overall I see us getting better.”

Barber agreed, “Maclay is a good team; we have always had trouble with them, but we all had close matches. They just came out on top.”

Loeffler also played doubles with Barrette Jackson, but lost in a close match of 6-8. Savage and Cole Buchanan pulled out a win last night of 8-2 against their opponents; making it his second win of the night. Jacob McLaughlin and Ben Mitchell lost in a 7-9 match, and Laswon Humphrey and Jacob Reynolds came close to beating their opponent, but lost out 8-9.

The Bearcats are seeded number one in the region and they will play Veterans in the first match on April 12.

Barber and Loeffler’s last goal for this senior season is to win the region. They think this school was a great game to prepare for what’s to come and they look forward to laying it all out on the court in the coming weeks.
