W.B. “Bill” Fleming, 88, of Attapulgus, Ga., passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018, in Griffin, Ga..

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Attapulgus Baptist Church with Rev. Jack House and Rev. Jerry Bishop officiating.  Interment will follow at Attapulgus Baptist Church Cemetery with Jacky Jackson, Johnny Medley, Keith Medley, Charles Greene, Billy Brown and Quinton Finuff serving as active pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2018, at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com.

Willie Byrd Fleming was born March 25, 1929, in Headland, AL, the son of Joseph Calvin Fleming  and Ella Forrester Whatley Fleming. Bill was a member of Attapulgus Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years. He worked as a heavy equipment operator with Englehard for 45 years.

Bill was dedicated to his church and lived his faith by putting his family first. He shared his love for God with everyone. He excelled in sports, once representing Georgia at Nationals in Bowling. Bill always enjoyed a good round of golf and has been described as “a golfing fanatic”.

Survivors include his son, Edward L. Fleming and his wife, Dora, of Newnan, Ga.; his daughter-in-law, Deborah Fleming; his sister, Myra Hartzog of Attapulgus, his grandchildren, Angela & Bob, Kristie & Mike, Michael & Jan, Melanie & Elohim, and Heather & Shane; his great-grandchildren, Matthew, Bailey, Ashley, McKale & Gage, and Elijah; and his great-great-grandson, Gareth.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Nix Fleming; his son, W. Calvin Fleming; and his siblings, Grace, Ellis, Millard, Raymond, Willma, William, Georgia, Ruth, Ruby, and Rhoda
