Bearcat baseball falls to Veterans

The Bainbridge Bearcat baseball team dropped a pair of region games last Friday night to Veterans, losing game one 7-0 and game two 4-1.

Bainbridge is now 5-8 (1-4 region).

In game one, The Bearcats fell behind early and couldn’t come make a comeback. Veterans took the lead on a single in the second inning and was only leading 2-0 before a 5-run rally in the top of the seventh.

Bainbridge struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Veterans, giving up seven runs.

Veterans fired up the offense in the second inning with a single on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

A single by Dalton Harrell in the second inning was a positive for the Bearcats.

Cole Hooks was the winning pitcher for Veterans. He lasted four innings, allowing four hits and zero runs while striking out four. Daniel Hawthorne threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Nick Barber took the loss for Bainbridge. He allowed four hits and two runs over five innings, striking out five.

Michael Conder went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Bearcats in hits.

Pierce led Veterans with three hits in four at bats.

In game two, Bainbridge was able to get a run on the board, but it wasn’t enough.

Veterans scored on a sacrifice fly in the first inning, a single by Jackson Williams in the second inning and a single in the second inning.

Veterans got things started in the first inning when the sac fly scored one run for Veterans.

Ben Gibbs pitched Veterans to victory. He allowed two hits and one run over three innings, striking out five. Williams and Derek Wylie entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Wylie recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Veterans.

Dalton Harrell took the loss for Bainbridge. He went six and a third innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out five.

Caleb Boutwell went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Bearcats in hits.

Pierce led Veterans with two hits in four at bats.
