Bearcat baseball loses on final play in ninth inning to Cairo, falls to 5-6 on the season

Bainbridge fell to Cairo 5-4 on Tuesday on the final play of the game.

The Bearcats evened things up at four in the top of the seventh inning. Griffin Long doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs.

Cairo scored three runs in the sixth inning. Cairo scored its runs on a error by Hayes Stills.

Stills led Cairo to victory on the pitcher’s mound. He lasted one inning, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out three and walking one. Garrett Gainous and Blake Touchton entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Walt Burrell took the loss for Bainbridge. He surrendered one run on one hit over one-third of an inning.

Long started the game for Bainbridge. He allowed five hits and one run over five innings, striking out three.

Ethan Godwin started the game for Cairo. He surrendered one run on four hits over four and a third innings, striking out four and walking zero.

The Bearcats collected eight hits on the day. Long and Michael Conder each collected multiple hits for Bainbridge. Conder and Long each collected three hits to lead Bainbridge.

Cairo totaled eight hits in the game. Gainous and Dawson Humphries each had multiple hits for Cairo. Gainous led Cairo with three hits in three at bats.
