Students display creativity, awards handed out at 2018 art show

Bainbridge Schools are turning out many budding artists, based on observations from the student art exhibit held Sunday at the Firehouse Arts Center. A complete list of winners follows.

There were three overall winners of the show. Elementary School winner was Morgan Rich, a third grade student at Jones Wheat Elementary School, for her rendition of a Peacock.

In the high school division, overall winner was Bethany Rentz for her drawing of Daisy Ridley.

Bethany is a 10th grade student who hopes to make a career of art after attending art school in Rhode Island. She says her interest for art came from her grandmother, Peggy King, who lived nearby and did drawing and painting.

Bethany says she has always drawn, beginning in Kindergarten and soon people started asking her to draw for them.

Elementary prize winners, first place through fourth, were: PreK-Kaleb Green, William Merino Sanchez, Daisy Chagoya Echavarria and Bryce Aldridge;1st Grade: Connor Toliver, JaMeka Grier, Elizabeth Hughes, Kevin Jimenez-Lucas; 2nd Grade:

Sydnee Coker, Emsleigh Glass, Daniel Bautista and Bella Esquivel. 3rd Grade: Morgan Rich, Kacy Kearns, Khamari Debron, Malaysia Miller; 4th Grade: Ashley Mosely, Kaiya Deibert, Hayden Reynolds and Daniel Reynolds.

Middle School (5th-8th grades) in Drawing, Anahay Ramos, Isabelle Campbell, Kaylee Lopez and Josimar Ramos; Mixed Media: Haylie Kaye, Julie Sarmiento, Cooper Genovar and Shakira Lawrence; 3-D Jamie Chen, Lollie Gay, Shelby Harper and Alyssa Posey. Painting: Riley Dunn, Georgia Wise, Victoria Chaney and Adan James. Printmaking: Cooper Genovar, Delvron Jackson, Ava Prouse and Je’Kenya Enzor.

Overall Middle School winner was Anahay Ramos, who was not present for a photo.

High School Category winners: Drawing, Bethany Rentz, Chakil Murphy, Elizabeth Kirkland, Tavarus Sweet. Mixed Media: Macy Garcia, Shaquavia Odom, Elizabeth Kirkland, Chakil Murphy. 3-D: Yasmin Guzman, Savannah Cumbie, Adia Brannan, Janisha Guy. Painting: Elizabeth Kirkland, Ashlyn Brock, Emily Chambers, Heaven Sizemore. Printmaking: Elizabeth Kirkland and Yessenia Padron.

The show will continue through March 15 during the hours of 3 to 6 p.m. Monday – Friday. Pickup of artwork can be made Sunday March 18 from 2 to 4 p.m.
