Bainbridge tennis splits evening against Colquitt Co.

The Bearcat tennis team took home one win and one loss on the road Thursday against Colquitt County.

The girls took home a victory of 4-1 Thursday afternoon, with the number one doubles’ team being a key to their success. Jade Stacey and Bree Powell beat Colquitt County 6-1, 6-0, while doubles’ team Megan Meszaros and Sarah Caroline Darley took a tough loss 5-7, 1-6 in their game.

With the score tied 1-1, Gracie Surratt beat Colquitt in a set of three 4-6, 6-2, 10-7. Coach Amy Thomas said Sydnee Burke also had a very decisive game, where she played dominantly throughout. Burke won her matches 6-0, 6-1. Mikey Harrell continued to help the team’s success by winning her match 6-2, 6-1. Thomas was very proud of the girls and their hard work because she said she knows Colquitt County is one of their tougher opponents.

The boys, unfortunately fell a little short Thursday afternoon, losing 0-5. Thomas was not disappointed in their play though.

“One, two and three singles split their sets,” she said. “They could’ve gone either way. In the end, we just fell a little short.”

Dalton Savage lost in a close matchup of 6-2, 5-7, 4-6. Robert Shockley had a nailbighting game of 6-7, 6-3 and another 6-7 to end the set. Mark Loeffler also lost in a game of 6-4, 1-6, 0-6.

Doubles team Lawson Humprey and Jacob Reynolds lost 0-6, 2-6 and Hudson Barber and teammate, Cole Buchanan lost their match 4-6, 3-6.

Although the varsity boys lost, the JV boys won. Both doubles’ teams took home a victory. Hayden Martin and John Taylor won 8-3, while Jacob McLaughlin and Ben Mitchell won 8-6. Singles player, Austin Aldridge beat his opponent 8-2. Other singles players, Blake Jackson and Barrette Lowe lost their match.

Bainbridge plays again Friday at 4 p.m. against Warner Robins at the BHS courts.
