The Bainbridge High School girls and boys tennis team is in full force and ready to take on any opponent this season.
The boys’ team is returning four starting seniors and they are adding one freshman starter to their talented lineup. Coach Amy Thomas said most of them have been together for four years now and a couple of them have been to the state playoffs. She said they really plan to capitalize off that experience and win region this year. The boys’ biggest competition is Harris County, but it’s someone they hope to meet up against in region play and win against this year.
The girls’ team is focusing on beating their toughest opponent, Veteran’s. The team has two seniors returning, but the rest of the team is still pretty young, according to Thomas. Only one senior graduated last year, so the team was able to fill in the hole she left and work to become stronger.
“This is the strongest girls’ team in some years,” Thomas said. “They’re itching to win region.”
Both teams have been working hard on building team spirit. They know to have a good season building team spirit and having a good morale is part of it. They regularly vote on player of the week and congratulate each other after good plays. The girls are also working on strengthening their doubles game, while the boys are working on consistency and serve percentages.
“The boys have no problem with attacking the ball,” Thomas said. “The girls have the opposite problem.”
However, Thomas said she knows it’ll be an exciting year and she feels very blessed to work with such a great group of young people.
Both teams will be playing Thursday in Moultrie against Colquitt County, beginning at 4 p.m. For those unable to attend the game, TeamApp will be reporting the scores live.
