Lady Cats host as 2 seed, Bearcats heading away

Despite their leading scorer not playing due to the flu, the Bainbridge Lady Cats still took second place in the Region Tournament last weekend in Warner Robins.

The Lady Cats (22-5) entered the tournament a 2-seed and finished a 2-seed for the state tournament. Bainbridge faced off against 1-seed Harris County in the Region Championship and took a tough loss on the chin, falling 50-17.

“We are a different team when she is not on the court,” coach Kelvin Cochran said. “She can steal a lot of those passes.”

Bainbridge was down 21-13 at the half, but only scored 4 points across the last two quarters of the game. Tytianna Roseborough led the team with 7 points and Tyra Smart added 4 to the board.

The Lady Cats were able to get the job done in the first round of the region tournament without Marshall, beating Veterans 42-36. Bainbridge trailed 20-15 at the half, but the team rallied on defense and made the shots they needed to win.

“It was a great team win,” Cochran said.

Bainbridge will host Statesboro (15-10) on Friday at the BHS gym for the first round the state tournament. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.

“We are going to have a great chance to win if we go in there and take care of business and play like we normally do,” Cochran said.

The Bainbridge Bearcats took third place in the region this weekend in Warner Robins, losing to Harris County 38-35 in the first round but taking down Thomas County Central 54-53 after that.

Tevin Price led the Bearcats in scoring against the Tigers, pouring in 13 points. Behind him was Deaunta Gardner with a double-double, 12 points scored and 11 rebounds.

Gardner followed that up with  a double-double against the Yellow Jackets, scoring 13 points and snagging 10 rebounds. Jeremiah Davis had 13 points as well and Tevin Price had 12.

Bainbridge will travel to Statesboro (21-5) on Saturday for the first round of the state playoffs tipoff is at 5 p.m.
